AMERICAN professional golfer Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, will make her first appearance in the Gary Player Invitational at Sun City on November 16 and 17.

"I've always been interested in South Africa and its history," said Cheyenne. "I've always wanted to come here. At the Masters this year I spoke to Gary Player and he told me a lot about the country."

Golfing icon Player said: "It's wonderful to have women's golf represented in our tournament by such a vibrant young talent as Cheyenne. She will serve as such an inspiration for so many young girls in South Africa. Her genuine interest in this country and its history is a great asset to this tournament and our efforts to raise as much money for charity as we can."

Cheyenne turned professional last year after a highly successful amateur career in which she won more than 30 tournaments. She has one career win in the pro ranks.

She wrote on her Twitter account: "Honored to have been invited to play this years @GPInvitational! I can't wait to head back to South Africa to be a part of this great cause!"

Meanwhile, the Gary Player Invitational's long-time supporter, Retief Goosen, has also confirmed his participation this year. He will join other sports stars, showbiz and business personalities in the charity event at the Lost City Golf Course.
