DANIE Venter will take on Sean Sox from Barbados for the vacant WBF cruiserweight title in Pretoria on September 21, WBF president Howard Goldberg confirmed on Saturday night.

The Capetonian was a ringside guest when Venter outpointed Elvis Moyo over six clean-fought rounds at the Pretoria North City Hall.

"Ja, it is official now. The fight is definitely on," confirmed Goldberg.

Real Steel Promotion, which presented a sold out box-and-dine tournament on Saturday night, will be in charge of the September 21 bill that will include Daniel Bruwer against Georgian Levan Jomardashvili for the WBF International title.

Kevin Lerena and Kaizer Mabuza will also be in action in the upcoming tournament.

Promoters Andre Thysse, Pieter de Wet and Anton de Hass have already dubbed it "No Guts, No Glory".

The fight on Saturday night was Venter's second since being stopped in the fifth round by Thabiso Mchunu for the ABU title at Emperors Palace on November 10.

He blew Nsitu Mbaya away in one round last month.

Thysse said Venter's fight against Mbaya gave them no further clue to what went wrong against Mchunu.

"That is why we gave him this one against Elvis. We knew Elvis will give him rounds," said Thysse. "There is still some work to be done, especially with his right hand; it is lazy. He does not snap it, but over and above that, we are happy about his performance."

Thysse, the former SA and Commonwealth super middleweight champion, also manages Venter.

Zimbabwean Moyo made Venter sweat for his win. He actually staggered Venter with an overarm right in the third round but took his foot off the peddle and Venter's best punch - his jab - did the trick.

The former SA cruiserweight champion has good hand speed, which should stand him in good stead when he challenges for the WBF title that eluded him in 2006. He was stopped in round six by Hungarian Gyorgy Hidvegi at Emperors Palace.

Lerena found Khayeni Hlungwane in uncompromising mood in their six-rounder, which Lerena won via a deserved unanimous points decision.

It was Lerena's second bout to go the distance.

Meanwhile, William Benkesi could not care less about the presence of Francois "White Buffalo" Botha in the corner of his son Marcel, and instead the unknown fighter from Mohlakeng on the west rand, who was taken as cannon fodder for Botha, just beat him on points over four bloody rounds.

That was Botha's first professional fight in a local ring, having made a positive start in Australia where he outpointed Jeremy Sebastian over four rounds last month.
