Sono snaps Aka to beef up Cosmos

JOMO Sono is on a mission to guide his club back into the Premier Soccer League after failing to even qualify for the promotional play-offs this time around.

Sono is on a roadshow to sign a combination of young and experienced players to challenge for automatic promotion to the top flight next season. The Black Prince of South African soccer made his intentions clear by acquiring the services of deadly striker Bryce Aka to beef-up his attack.

Aka is a well-travelled Ivorian who has also played for Mpumalanga Black Aces, Bay United and Maritzburg United. He joins Ezenkosi from Free State outfit African Warriors, who are also in the National First Division.

"I did not waste time when I heard that he was on the market. He has already joined us for pre-season training," Sono said.

"We were lacking upfront last season. This was a big problem for us.

"The team played well but the problem was that goals eluded us.

"The arrival of a big name like Bryce should send a loud-and-clear message that we mean business in terms of going back to the Premier Soccer League the following season."

Sono added that he was taking advantage of the school winter holidays to conduct trials at the team's training grounds.

The grounds are adjacent to the Rand Stadium in Rosettenville, in the south of Johannesburg.

"Our target is the Under-21 players because of the rule that we need to have five of them in the starting line-up when we play official games," Sono said.

Also coming on board is right back Jabulani Rantho. He joins from Safa Second Division League side Maluti FET College - the Free State side that bundled Orlando Pirates out of the Nedbank Cup Last-32 last season.
