Trio stripped of SA titles

WISEMAN Dlomo, Tshepang Mohale and Miniyakhe Sityatha have been stripped of their South African titles due to a failure to renew their boxing licences, Boxing SA director of operations Loyiso Mtya announced yesterday.

Dlomo was the heavyweight champion, Mohale held the light-heavyweight belt, while Sityatha was the bantamweight holder.

Mtya said the three former champions were aware of the latest developments.

"The correspondence was sent to them. We made it clear to them that Boxing South Africa ... has withdrawn its recognition of them as SA champions.

"This decision has been brought about by their failure to have applied for the renewal of their boxing licences by March 31 2013, which was the deadline set by the South African Boxing Act 11 of 2001."

Mtya added that Boxing South Africa gave the boxers three extensions to allow them and other boxers more opportunity to start the process of relicensing.

"But they failed to respond. Therefore they have been stripped of their titles," said Mtya.

Attempts to get comments from the three former champions were unsuccessful.
