Kaizer Chiefs return to the FNB Stadium

KAIZER Chiefs will return to FNB Stadium for their final home game of the season.

That will be on May 4 when they host NFD side United FC in the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup.

After being forced out of the 2010 World Cup venue, their home for most of the campaign, because of concerts, the Premier Soccer League's cup committee confirmed yesterday that Amakhosi will host United FC at the imposing venue.

Chiefs' last game at FNB Stadium was against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby that ended in a 0- 0 draw on March 9. Despite coach Stuart Baxter moaning about the travelling strain on his players, the club surrendered home advantage and moved their league matches to Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The PSL's cup committee also confirmed yesterday that the second semifinal - between Platinum Stars and SuperSport United - will be played at Royal Bafokeng Stadium four days later.

Meanwhile, Baxter will be pleased with the return of striker Matthew Rusike following a month-long injury lay-off.

He badly injured a thigh muscle in the 2-0 win against Chippa United on March 6 that ruled him out of what would have been his Soweto derby debut.

The Zimbabwean attacker also missed out on his country's 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt last month.

While this is a boost for the PSL log leaders going into their remaining five matches of the season, Chiefs were not short on options up front, with top scorer Bernard Parker, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Kingston Nkhatha, S'thembiso Ngcobo and Kaizer Motaung Jr all available.

They face Moroka Swallows in a league match in Dobsonville on Saturday, but Rusike is unlikely to be selected.

Central defender Mulomowandau Mathoho, who did not feature in Amakhosi's narrow 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Bloemfontein Celtic, is expected to be back against the Dube Birds, and will be eager to impress.
