SECOND-HALF goals from Kaizer Motaung Jr and Kingstone Nkatha took log leaders Kaizer Chiefs past a gritty Chippa United at the Athlone Stadium last night.

The win also stretched Amakhosi's lead on the Premiership league log, but the triumph came at the back of a controversial red card that cost the relegation-threatened Chippa a player for the last half hour.

A red for a studs-up challenge from Buyile Sali from referee Buyile Qubule turned the tide of the game as Chippa lost a crucial player in the tight midfield battle and handed Chiefs the momentum, which they immediately took.

They scored just five minutes after Sali's sending off in the 53rd minute.

Motaung came on for only his second appearance of the season and netted for the first time since last February at the end of a long throw-in from Morgan Gould and a flick on from Tefu Mashamaite.

An insurance goal from Kingstone Nkatha three minutes from time made sure that Chiefs went five points clear at the top of the standings. He tapped in from close range after an initial effort from Sthembiso Ngcobo had been saved.

lRamatsiyi Moholoa reports from Orlando Stadium in Soweto that Orlando Pirates' woes continued when they played to a 1-1 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic in a game where the two goals were scored by second-half substitutes.

Tlou Segolela gave Pirates the lead in the 77th minute while Vuyani Ntanga equalised in the 90th minute with some fans already making their way out of the stadium.

Bucs had conceded seven goals in their last two games - losing 4-1 to Maluti FET College in the Nedbank Cup and 3-2 to Moroka Swallows in the league.

After the two sides were deadlocked 0-0 at interval, the Free State outfit came back playing a more attacking soccer in search of goals.

The Ghost celebrated when Segolela came in for Thulasizwe Mbuyane in the 55th minute, while Celtic defender Dominic Isaacs replaced striker Bacela to add more numbers at the back.

The hard-running Segolela silenced Celtic's fans with a goal in the 77th minute as Siwelele had started singing, beating the drums and blowing vuvuzelas.

Ntanga, whose club have already defeated Pirates in the league and the Telkom Knockout this season, levelled the matters with a fine header right at the death.

  • The PSL log including last night's games will be published tomorrow.
