Jomo Cosmos' owner-coach Jomo Sono's children are making waves within the club's management structures, which is a clear indication that they are being groomed for bigger roles in its administration.

The Sonos' appointments are similar to those of Premiership clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, Free State Stars and Black Leopards where sons of the owners were placed in strategic positions.

Sono's daughter Nyiko, who was the club's former marketing manager, has been appointed Ezenkosi's chief operations officer, while Bamuza "Scara" Sono, who is still registered as a player, has also been appointed as team manager.

Besides the appointments of the Sonos, veteran goalkeeper Avril "Chawe" Phali has also been appointed as keeper coach although he is also still registered as a player.

Cosmos will host Witbank Spurs in their National First Division league opener at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.

Sono said they were well prepared for the match after three-month long pre-season preparations.

"We believe that we are equal to all the clubs in the NFD and as a result we expect a tough challenge from Spurs. We are well aware that all the clubs want to beat Cosmos and we will approach them with caution.

"We respect all our opponents and we will not make the mistake of undermining them. We will work hard," said Sono yesterday.

He said entrance on Saturday will be free of charge to encourage the club's supporters to attend the game.

Experienced players like Bamuza Sono, captain Gladwin Shitolo and returnee Lethola "Kanu" Mofokeng including the young Matsilela Junior Sono have the potential to lead Ezenkosi to victory.

Siyavutha spokesperson Thabo "T-bose" Moroape said playing against a club of Cosmos's calibre in the opening league match is a motivation on its own.

"We have great respect for Cosmos, especially their owner-coach Jomo Sono, but this will not stop us from fighting for maximum points," Moroape said yesterday. "We are ready for the battle and victory is certain."

Spurs will pin their hopes on the likes of former Black Leopards player Simphiwe Vezi, Bafana Maphango and Ayanda Mbatha for victory.
