"We are building United into a top brand"

Premier Soccer League newcomers Chippa United have signed a R500,000 deal with Vodacom, who have become their primary sponsors.

The one-year deal was signed by the Chilli Boys with the giant telecommunications company's Western Cape provincial branch and not the national office.

There is an option to renew the sponsorship.

According to our deep throats, part of the deal will see United's owner Chippa Mpengesi also acquiring some of the franchise shops in the province.

Steven Barnwell, the telecommunications company's Western Cape region managing executive, said they were delighted to have signed a partnership with United.

"Chippa United's rise through the ranks has been remarkable and Vodacom is happy to be joining forces with a club that shares the same core values of the pursuit for excellence.

"This team has a dedicated local following and together we aim to increase our presence in the Western Cape region by bringing the people closer to their passion."

Mpengesi believes the vote of confidence from the corporate world affords them a sense of credibility and a challenge to be taken seriously.

"The sponsorship came at a good time. We've had a tough start to the season," said Mpengesi, who is adamant his club will not be relegated. "We are building United into a top brand."
