New softball tourney for Botlokwa

RESIDENTS of Botlokwa near Polokwane will celebrate Heritage Month with a new softball tournament at Ga-Ramokgopa Diamonds in Mokomene on Saturday.

The Botlokwa Heroes' Tournament is endorsed by the Limpopo Softball Association. The tournament, held in honour of Botlokwa-born softball players and administrators who have passed on, is hosted by Botlokwa Angels.

Eight clubs, including South African giants Mahwelereng Spikes and Lebowakgomo Wild Beasts, have registered .

Other participating clubs are Angels, Kalkspruit Red Scorpion, Moletlane Texas, Mahwelereng Pioneers, Botlokwa Invitation and Limpopo Softball Association Masters.

Softball legend Pat "Fingers" Moyaha was confident the tournament would grow in leaps and bounds to become one of the big annual sporting events in Limpopo.

"This is part of our plans to intensify the revival of softball in Botlokwa and also honour heroes who have passed on."

Late Botlokwa softball players and administrators who will be honoured at this tournament include Molamo Kobe, Mistake Rangata, Aubrey Raphela, Kotsoko Mabetoa, Billy Kwatapa, Peter Moshokwa, Matome Sebone, Lekau Moyaha and Eddy Meela.

"Pitch-off is 9am. We appeal to the people of Botlokwa to come in their droves in support of this tournament, which is endorsed by the provincial governing structure," said Moyaha.
