ONE of the world's top basketball players, Thabo Sefolosha, who has South African roots, is in the country to help contribute to the development of the local game.

The celebrated Switzerland-born Sefolosha is a top National Basketball Association (NBA) player whose father is South African and mother Swiss. He plays shooting guard and forward for Oklahoma City Thunder.

Sefolosha is part of the group of NBA and Women's NBA players, legends and coaches who are here for the 10th edition of the Basketball Without Borders Africa camp.

The delegation was in Phokeng in North West on Wednesday and in Johannesburg yesterday and today. They leave on Sunday.

They are conducting extensive community outreach projects focused on grassroots basketball development, education, and health and wellness.

The NBA and WNBA group tipped off the camp with a basketball clinic for athletes from Special Olympics South Africa yesterday as part of a worldwide partnership.

The team will also help build two homes with Habitat for Humanity South Africa in Orange Farm today.

Supported by the Pagliuca family, 13 homes will be built as part of NBA Cares efforts and Basketball without Borders Africa.

Sefolosha and company will be in Alexandra today for the NBA Cares Legacy Project, a newly refurbished sports complex that will provide four new basketball/netball courts, creating a safe space for kids and families to play.

BWB Africa is hosted by St John's College and the King Edward VII School in Johannesburg and features a boys' camp with top players 18 and under from across Africa, as well as a girls camp for 25 top players from across South Africa. Other members of the delegation include Sefolosha's Oklahoma City Thunder teammates Serge Ibaka, Nick Collison and Cole Aldrich as camp coaches.
