Ndou aims to reclaim IBO belt

LOVEMORE "Black Panther" Ndou wants to return to South Africa before the end of the year. The Australia-based South African will not be here to stay, but to fight for orphans of the HIV-Aids epidemic.

He left Musina in 1995.

Ndou, who was crowned WBF and IBF Pan Pacific welterweight champion after outpointing Gary St Clair two weeks ago, wants to be in action either in October or November. He said Chris "The Heat" van Heerden is his target.

"That is only because Chris holds my old (IBO) title, otherwise I would have to bring in an international opponent to fight me," he said last Thursday from his home in New South Wales while celebrating his 42nd birthday. "The plan is to fight in South Africa in October or November, preferably at Thohoyandou Stadium, and donate every cent of my purse to the orphans of the HIV-Aids epidemic.

"Obviously, I will need sponsors to come on board to make it a reality. I intend to travel to SA in the near future and start talking to those who are keen on lending a helping hand. I have already approached a promoter, television station and Radio Phalaphala to make it a reality."

Van Heerden holds the belt that Ndou forfeited after losing to Saul Alvarez for the WBC silver junior middleweight title on December 4 2010. Ndou had won it after defeating Phillip "Time Bomb" Ndou on points at Emperors Palace on July 11 2009.

His last fight in South Africa was a points win against Bongani "Cyclone" Mwelase on September 18 2010.

Ndou is a former IBF junior welterweight champion with 49 wins (31 KOs), 13 losses and two draws.
