Top ten PSL transfers

THE transfer window has been hectic for many clubs and Sowetan lists the top 10 moves ahead of the 2012-13 season based on the likely influence these players will have on their new clubs.

Delron Buckley

Free agent to Maritzburg United Buckley left German second-tier side Karlsruher at the end of last season following their relegation. He brings with him bags of experience and the ability to play in a number of positions, from left-back up to striker. He may be 34 years old, but he has always been a fit player who will serve as a role model for the club's youngsters. Buckley has never played in the PSL, having spent his entire 17-year career in Europe.

Morgan Gould

SuperSport United to Kaizer Chiefs

Gould has been tipped as the new national captain and is a natural leader. His move to Chiefs is one of a number of defensive changes at a club that traditionally does not concede many. He has matured well as a defender since his time with Jomo Cosmos and has been a central part of SuperSport United's success.

Souleymane Keita

Sivasspor, Turkey to Lamontville Golden Arrows have been seeking a replacement for the departed Clifford Ngobeni and think they have found him in Mali international Keita. The defensive midfielder has experience of playing in Europe and was also part of the Mali squad at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Abafana Bes'thende coach Muhsin Ertugral knows him well from their time together at Sivasspor in Turkey.

Tebogo Langerman

SuperSport United to Mamelodi Sundowns

Langerman has been a star performer for United over the past few seasons and will add depth to the left side of the Sundowns team. Able to operate as a left-back or left wing, he is under-rated in the PSL, but did receive a national team call-up last season. He faces stiff competition for a starting place, but is a player with plenty of confidence.

George Maluleka

Ajax Cape Town to SuperSport United

Maluleka's loss will be keenly felt by Ajax, but he is a big boost to SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt. Able to play as a holding midfielder or a striker, the Bafana Bafana international is one of the big young stars of the domestic game. He is probably best in the midfield, where SuperSport have at times looked a little short, especially now that Botswana international Dipsy Selolwane has left.

Benson Mhlongo

Orlando Pirates to Platinum Stars

If Mhlongo can stay fit he will be a huge asset to Dikwena both on and off the pitch. Able to operate equally effectively in midfield or defence, he brings experience to the squad and a winning mentality. He has been brought in as a leader and is hoping to get his career back on track.

Joel Mogorosi

Platinum FC, Zimbabwe to Bloemfontein Celtic

Mogorosi's transfer to Celtic was a complex one, with his previous team in Botswana, Mochadi Centre Chiefs, selling him to FC Platinum in Zimbabwe. However, before he kicked a ball for the latter, he was sold on again to Celtic, who are delighted with their capture. The winger-cum-striker is one to watch.

Tinashe Nengomasha

Chiefs to BidVest Wits

The veteran Zimbabwean international ended his 10-year stay at Chiefs to join the revolution at Wits, deciding to turn down a new contract at Naturena. He is one of several experienced players brought into the club in an attempt to lift the average age of what was a very young squad.

Matthew Pattison

Santos to Bidvest Wits

Pattison could be the perfect foil for Nengomasha in the centre of midfield, a player who can unlock opposition defences and brings goals as well. The key to the success of his move will be keeping him happy. He is a player that when on song can light up the PSL, but when he feels unloved can let it affect his game.

Thamsanqa Sangweni

AmaZulu to Sundowns

The junior international was a coup for Sundowns and gives them cover in both midfield and defence. It is likely he has been brought on board as Esrom Nyandoro's long-term replacement and many believe he is a future Bafana star.
