IF THERE is one thing Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund needs to bring back the glory days of the national team, it is the support of all South African soccer fanatics.

Gordon needs the backing of the nation to change the fortunes of our once-beloved Bafana.

Where praises are warranted they should be given unreservedly to the coach, while constructive criticism will help him.

For the sake of continuity, Gordon should also rope in Steve Komphela as his assistant (Igesund yesterday called on Thomas Madigage from SuperSport United to be his assistant). He should also consider formerBafana players, especially those from the Class of '96, for his technical team.

This kind of approach has worked for other successful countries like Brazil, who appointed Dunga to do the work, but he was architect of his own downfall when he developed a negative attitude to some of his players.

Even in South Africa, other successful sporting codes like cricket and rugby have appointed former players to do the job. I believe that Gordon Igesund has the potential and the ability to bring back happy days to Bafana Baana.
