Lodewyk tourney a slam dunk

THE eighth instalment of the Ashraf Lodewyk basketball tournament will be played at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg from tomorrow until Sunday.

Wits Sport official Onkabetse Matlhaga said 20 male and 12 female teams will participate in this tournament, which is held in memory of Lodewyk.

Lodewyk was a committed basketball player for Wits Basketball Club and also helped out in various basketball activities on the campus. He died in a car accident.

"Ashraf was a psychology student and committed and loyal individual. Wits Basketball Club was well supported not only on the campus but also in Gauteng because of him," said Matlhaga.

Vaal University of Technology are the reigning women's champions, while Pretoria Heat are the men's champions.

Matlhaga said the matches that will be played at Hall 29, West Campus, will start at 9am.
