SA players on the ball overseas

THERE were more goals for South Africans abroad at the weekend, as well as a professional debut for one of the country's most promising young stars in England.

Calvin Kadi continued his remarkable scoring form in the Greek second tier when he netted a 14th goal of the season, and a seventh in his last five games, as Veria took another giant step towards promotion to the top-flight with a 2-0 success against Kallonis.

Kadi and his team are now nine points clear in the automatic promotion places with just four matches of the season remaining, meaning it would take a collapse of catastrophic proportions for them not to be in the top division in the next campaign.

South African youngster Kgosi Ntlhe made his professional debut for English Championship side Peterborough United as they drew 2-2 at home to Watford.

With United's Championship status safe for next season, manager Darren Ferguson, son of Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson, shuffled his side and introduced the highly rated right-back into the game at half-time.

Ntlhe has been in the match-day squad before, but these were his first minutes in professional football.

He only turned 18 in February and will hope to use next season as a springboard for what is tipped to be a very promising career.

Aaron Mokoena's Portsmouth were relegated from the Championship following their 2-1 home defeat by Derby County, a game that the former Bafana Bafana skipper watched from the bench.

Darren Keet was on the bench as Kortrijk lost 4-1 at home to Gent in the Belgian Championship play-off group, while Daylon Claasen was again a scorer for Lierse as they drew 2-2 with Cercle Brugge in the Europa League play-offs.

Siboniso Gaxa started from the bench in the game but was a second-half substitute.

Bafana international May Mahlangu helped his Helsingborg side to an unconvincing 2-1 win at Atvidabergs.
