Now there's a R1 million investigation

The City of Cape Town is to spend R1 million investigating why sections of its stadium’s roof appear to be coming loose, the Cape Times reported on Monday.

During a routine inspection a year ago, a few bolts were found to have failed, even though the roof was designed to withstand strong south-easterly winds.

Mayoral committee member Grant Pascoe guaranteed the safety of the stadium. He told the newspaper that Arup Consulting Engineers had been appointed for R1 million to conduct an independent professional review.

The stadium has cost ratepayers R44.6 million over the last financial year.
