Vlad's record at Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic had a Premier League win ratio of just over 51% during his almost three years with the club. That compares favourably with his peers.

No other coach managed to better that this season, bar Augusto Palacios at Orlando Pirates who has been in charge for only six league games, winning four.

Vermezovic’s sudden departure from the job at this crucial stage of the season when his team is still very much in the mix for league and Nedbank Cup honours suggests off-field issues may lie at the heart of his dismissal.

He led the team in 83 league matches in total, winning 42 of those and suffering 17 defeats for a total of 150 league points.

That is below the standard set by Ted Dumitru between 2003 and 2005 when he led the side to back-to-back league titles, winning 35 of the 60 matches he played for a win ratio of 58%.

It is close to the mark set by Donald Khuse and Doctor Khumalo when they were last in charge of the team between the tenures of Muhsin Ertugral and Dumitru in the 2002-03 campaign.

They managed a win ratio of 52% in the league with 13 victories from the 25 matches they were in charge of as the side finished sixth.

If you add cup competitions into the mix then Vermezovic’s win ratio jumps to 53%, boosted by the two Telkom Knockout victories he managed in the 2010 calendar year.

His side won 16 of the 26 cup matches they played, drawing four and losing six. They did claim both of the penalty shoot-outs that he was involved in as a coach as well.
