Rovers hunt for that premier spot

EASTERN Cape's Blackburn Rovers are adamant they will gain promotion to the Premiership despite trailing leaders University of Pretoria by three points.

"We are well on track, we just need to keep on fighting hard," said Rovers' managing director, Dumisani Mcedani.

Mcedani was speaking after the 1-1 draw against AmaTuks in a National First Division League match in East London on Saturday. "If the referee was not Charles Theron, we would have won the match. I believe in telling the truth," said the popular East London businessman.

Theron was yesterday unavailable for comment.

Mcedani hopes to intensify their challenge for the league title by beating Bay United at the University of Limpopo Stadium on Wednesday.

"We are going to Polokwane for a win, we are not going to disappoint the people of Eastern Cape who want to have a professional club in the PSL.

"When we gained promotion in Witbank last season, we promised that Blackburn Rovers would be in the Premiership in three years' time. We are still living that dream. The support we are getting from Eastern Cape and our provincial leaders is highly appreciated."

Bay United are fresh from a 3-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Eastern Cape has been without a professional club since Sturu Pasiya's Bush Bucks were relegated to the First Division almost five years ago.
