REJECTS ALLEGATIONS: Mzwandile Maforvane
REJECTS ALLEGATIONS: Mzwandile Maforvane

CONTROVERSIAL Safa executive committee member Mzwandile Maforvane must substantiate his allegations regarding the abuse of Lotto monies by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee.

This is according to National Lottery Distribution Fund spokesman Sershan Naidoo, who said they will investigate the claims if presented to them.

Maforvane claims Sascoc board members are enriching themselves with Lotto money but did not mention board members by name.

Naidoo said: "I'm not aware of it. Like any other beneficiary of Lottery Distribution funds, Sascoc has to report on how they used the grants. If the Safa NEC member has information on who at Sascoc has been enriching themselves with the Lottery funds and how, we can conduct our own investigation."

Maforvane made the claims last month after Sascoc announced that they will investigate Safa on a wide range of issues, including poor administration.

Ironically, Maforvane is also under siege in his own region of Xhariep where some districts want to know how a grant of more than R1.3m was used. Naidoo said: "We can confirm that a grant of R1345600 has been allocated to Safa Xhariep to be paid in three payments and that R448533 was paid in May 2011. The next payment will be made once we have received a report on how the previous grant was used."

A Xhariep soccer administrator, who asked not to be named, said they would ask Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to investigate the finances of their structure.

"Football is dead in Xhariep because of corruption and maladministration in the region," said the official.

There are also power struggle allegations that resulted in an AGM being postponed indefinitely two weeks ago. Maforvane is accused of being against the nomination of Pierre Minie, Nomhle Msebenzi, Lesawana Song and Nobelungu Thumana. Thumana, Song, Msebenzi and Minie have rejected allegations of financial mismanagement. Maforvane has denied all the allegations levelled against him.
