THE South African Under-20 Women's Team (Basetsana) defeated Botswana 3-1 in the first-round second leg qualifier of the Fifa under-20 Women's World Cup at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton on Saturday.
Basetsana won 7-2 on aggregate after a 4-1 victory in the first leg in Gaborone two weeks ago.
The second leg took place on Saturday at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton on the East Rand. The South Africans did not sit back and defend their lead but attacked their opponents from the first whistle.
Striker Jermaine Seoposenwe put South Africa in the lead in the 22nd minute.
On the stroke of half-time Botswana found the equaliser through Phatsimo Bosa after a defensive blunder by the home side.
In the second half Basetsana continued from where they left off, and scored three goals that were all ruled offside.
They managed to get two - which came in the 30th minute and in referee's optional time - through second-half substitutes Shiwe Nogwanya and Elizabeth Mashilo respectively.
But coach Sheryl Botes said: "We won but I'm disappointed in the players' performance - we struggled throughout the match. We now have three yellow cards."
