THE South African Football Association has organised a Fifa training course to assist aspiring local goalkeeper coaches.

"It will be the first-ever elite goalkeeper coaching course in South Africa," said Safa technical director Serame "Rhee" Letsoaka yesterday.

The course will run from January 30 to February 7.

"The course will take place in Potchefstroom in North West at a facility which was used by Spain during the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

"We are targeting goalkeeper coaches working for the various national teams, Premier Soccer League and National First Division clubs.

"The objective of this course is to further equip goalkeeper coaches, more so as there is going to be the introduction of licensing for all the coaches.

"We want even the goalkeeper coaches to be fully equipped. This is a specialised area that we never give enough attention to. We requested Fifa to assist us with personnel to conduct this course and they have confirmed that they will be sending a top instructor."

Letsoaka said the course will cover tactical training, physical conditioning, technical training and youth goalkeeper training.

"Entry requirements are a Safa Level 1 coaching certificate or equivalent. Each person will pay a sum of R1500 and organise own transport to the venue. Closing date for the applications is January 20. We need only 25 coaches for the course and it will be on a first come, first served basis.

"Applications must be faxed to Nomathemba Zitha on 086-695-8635 or phone her on 011-494-3522 from January 9 2012," Letsoaka said.
