Benni McCarthy's dream team + more

Lucas Radebe's name is there.. plus find out what Benni's regret is, what cars he drives, how his temper can get the better of him and who he rates as his best South African team-mates

Benni McCarthy answers fans questions with Orlandopiratesfc.com. Here are some highlights:

Question. How have you found life at Pirates? Please man, bang those goals at least 23. Don Lukhele from Sebokeng

Benni's answer: Life at Pirates has been great, I’m enjoying my football again and I love spending time with my teammates.

Q: My name is Thabani Tshuma from Krugersdorp and I'll like to say to Benni: "Benni in the 18Area!.....Area!.....Bhakaniya in the Area!......Area!.....Halakasha!" Firstly I honestly think you are the Best Striker in Africa, together with Samuel Eto and Drogba. Soccer-Laduma issue of the 26-10-2011 Compared your Statistics with that of Drogba in both your Soccer Careers so far and the Fact was you are better than him as far as scoring League goals is concerned. Can we rely on your "Magic Legs" to put on a Second Gold Star on our Logo and have you make History by being the only player in this land to have won both the European and African Champions League?

BM: Hey Thabani it’s a great honour to be put in the same category as the likes of Sammy Eto’o and Drogba. It is also very great to hear that you outshine someone like Drogba on the statistics as prolific goal scorers. Hopefully I still have some magic in my legs to help Pirates fulfil there dream in winning another African Champions League.

Q. Hi Benni. You have joined the Bucs ship and already we are taking note of your class, please keep up the good work and bring those goals. However how are you finding SA and the PSL in terms of quality? Lipoko Matsotso

BM: It’s a privilege to be part of a legendary club such as Pirates. I love SA because it’s the country where I’m born and where my people are from.

The PSL in terms of quality has improved immensely because players are so much better, stronger and way more skilful than people give them credit for. Therefore our league has improved very much and is full of quality.

Q. My question is do you have any target you set for yourself this season? The last one is do you think we stand a chance of winning the league this season? Leatile Langa Moseki / Gaborone, Botswana

BM: We have every chance of retaining our league title and we hope to add more silverware to our addition. Personal goals that I set for myself is definitely to become my team's top goal scorer and hopefully the PSL as well.

Q. Maano Nekhavhambe in Tshifulanani: Hi Benni. You are indeed a football success on its own in Mzanzi. As a role model to every footballer in SA:

a. Which footballer do you look up to locally and internationally?

b. When you were still young, have you ever thought that one day you’ll have a UEFA champions league gold medal and that you will play for a big team like PIRATES?

c. And i would like to know as my favourite player, which car(s) are you driving?

a) BM: My footballer I looked up to growing up was John “Shoes” Moshoeu and Doctor Khumalo and Internationally was the real Ronaldo of Brazil.

b) Never have I even dreamt of playing in the Champions League for a European club let alone win myself a Champions League medal. So it’s a great honour for me to finally associate myself with a big team like Pirates.

c) In SA I drive a Porsche Panamera, but I also have a Bentley, Range Rover and Audi Q7 in the UK. Hard work pays off.

Q. Bennito. Rumour has it that you will be given a freedom of Soweto. One can be easily believe that you have been at Pirates for Donkey years. The passion you have and the dying Spirit you have makes one to be happy that you are a Bakajuju. Benny, if goal keepers have special training, don’t you think strikers like Ndulula, Tlou, Mabena need a special training or Coaches and do you think our Academies are useful in order to produce quality strikers. Pavarotti ( Cape Town)

BM: I am always a very passionate player whichever team I play for but joining Pirates was a memorable moment for me that is why I fit in to the Pirates scheme like I have been around for donkey years.

Yes I fully agree that strikers can improve their goal scoring abilities by putting in extra work after training on their finishing.

Our academies are definitely not a waste of time because they are very important for the future of this country but they could do with proper coaches and the right set up to succeed.

Q. Hi Benni. I’ve had the privilege of meeting you at Sandton City a few years back when you were still part of the Under 23 set-up with Matthew Booth and Danie Matsau to mention a few. You have always been very good and humble towards the supporters, even up to this day, despite your huge success. My question to you is, how do you manage to stay so humble and how do you always make time to have a chat with the supporters every time you come across us? Toni in Edenvale

BM: Supporters are extremely important in the life of professional athlete because a huge part of our success is always due to the support.

Where I am from when you grow up with nothing you learn to appreciate life and life’s gifts by being humble and respectful. So I never allow my fame and fortune to change me as a person and try to always stay humble. I always make time for the fans because they just as important as me or any other celebrity.

Q. As an Orlando Pirates Faithfully supporter, I would like to know how do the players react whenever u give them instruction or should i say whenever u share some ideas coz i see the way you position yourself and create space for other young players like u did when U pass one of your passes to Rantie. Other than that i believe in you Benni and i see u more than i players on the field , with u in the field it’s like we have Leal as well. keep the good work we are all behind u and the rest of our players. Cheers. B.D Ngwenyama - Phomolong, Tembisa

BM: The players have responded amazingly to me whenever I give them advice or instructions because they appreciate what I have achieved in my career and we have respect for each other.

Most of the time they listen very carefully because every one of them is ambitious and I hope that my advice could help them in the long run to achieve similar success.

Q. In your time abroad, who was the best defender you ever faced? Your best teammate in Spain, Portugal & England? Locally, can you please name 5 players that you think can go overseas and make a difference? Tumelo Monama

BM: The best defender is Paolo Maldini of AC Milan. My best teammate in Spain was Claude Makalele. Best teammate in Portugal was Deco and Bosingwa. Best teammate in England was Christopher Samba and Jason Roberts.

My 5 best local players are Oupa Manyisa, Andile Jali, Happy Jele, Moeneeb “Slimkat” Josephs, Thlou “Gautrain” Segolela and Mark “Professor” Mayambela.

Q. Hola Benni. I am very happy with your contribution to the team at the moment and I strongly believe you’ll still get even better but I am disappointed at the rate which you’re picking up yellow and red cards, would you please deal with you anger/temper? I know you’re being targeted by our opponents but please don’t punch or abuse them verbally because that will get you into trouble. Good luck Benni. - Mohlompheng Hlomphi Chuene

BM: Point taken and I will definitely make sure that I don’t pick anymore yellow or red cards. Unfortunately I am just a very passionate player which gets me into trouble with referees because they mistake my passion for aggressiveness.

Q. Benito. When you joined Blackburn, you scored the second most number of goals to Drogba, Jose Mourinho then joined Chelsea and wanted to sign you. Do you regret not making that move to Chelsea under your former coach? - Herbert Themba Masheula

BM: It was my biggest regret in football not joining Mourinho at Chelsea because I would have formed an amazing partnership with Drogba at that time cause we were both in our prime and in fine goal scoring form. But things happen in life which you can’t change and I will have hate towards Blackburn Rovers for not letting me leave and join forces with Mourinho again.
