Nathi Lions now Atlie FC

NATIONAL First Division club Nathi Lions's new owners have renamed the former KwaZulu-Natal-based club Atlie FC after it was relocated to Thembisa in Ekurhuleni.

Atlie FC chief executive officer Andrew Mosesi confirmed yesterday that they received approval from the PSL last Friday to change the name.

Mosesi said club chairperson Thabo Mathamela has resolved to rename the club after his child, whose name is Atlegang, a Setswana name that means "prosper" in English.

"The logic behind the renaming of the club is to profile Mathamela's company Atlie Projects CC, which deals with security, transport and fencing," Mosesi said yesterday.

"We will play our home matches at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton. We are still negotiating with Jomo Cosmos to allow us to host our opening match against FC Cape Town at Makhulong Stadium on August 20 to launch the club officially.

"Besides soccer we will also be involved in youth development, education and training. We have put in place a three-year plan to get the team promoted to the Premiership. In the first season we will strive to be in the top eight."
