SOUTH Africa is 138 days from hosting the IX International Softball Federation Junior Women's World Softball Championships in Cape Town in December, but the local association is being snubbed by the corporate world.

Softball SA needs about R15million to host this prestigious tournament, which will be played at Turfhall Stadium from December 6 to 17. SSA president Guillo Marapyane says they have enlisted the services of top marketing companies to help them find funding.

"Softball is one of the most popular sporting codes. It was played by people who are now executives, politicians and also big in business. We are making a special appeal to make the tournament a resounding success."

Polokwane-based Marapyane said they have also applied for assistance from the National Lottery Distribution Fund.

"The support we are getting from the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee is highly appreciated."

Tickets for the tournament are already on sale at Computicket outlets. They cost R20 per day.

"The sale will be done on our website: www.jwwc2011.co.za, which is linked to Computicket," said Local Organising Committee chairperson Noore Nacerodien.
