Mangaung side beefs up

MANGAUNG Development Centre, an SAB Regional League side in Free State, are searching for players to sharpen their attack and defence.

"We are eyeing promotion next season to the Vodacom League," said Centre founder and soccer legend Ishmael "Litre" Mokitlane. "Our aim is to visit various townships and villages in and around Mangaung in search of two strikers and two defenders."

The side that was formed by Mokitlane in 2004 to develop and nurture talent in Mangaung, finished fourth on the log last season.

Mokitlane made a name for himself as a member of the Bloemfonetin Celtic side that won the 1985 Mainstay Cup.

Besides Phunya SeleSele, Mokitlane - who is in possession of a Safa Level 1 coaching certificate - also played for Free State Stars and Manning Rangers

"After hanging up my soccer boots, I decided to venture into coaching with the focus on development," Mokitlane said yesterday.

"I started Centre with the likes of Benjamin Reed and Phera Rankahlane, and Benjamin has since left to coach Winter Roses.

"There is talent in abundance in Bloemfontein and surrounding areas but we need more former players to come on board and help Safa develop it.

"It has been a long time since Mangaung produced great youngsters to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Thiyekile Gulwa, Abram Nteo and James Madidilane."
