Montjane shines

WHEELCHAIR tennis star Kgothatso "KG" Montjane is well on track to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics.

Team South Africa women's coach Rene Plant made the prediction after Montjane beat Katherina Kruger during the ITF Wheelchair Tennis World Cup in Pretoria at the weekend.

Montjane, who is ranked No15 in the world, defeated the the German twice in just 10 days. Kruger is ranked No 10.

Plant said: "We're proud of Kgothatso and with this significant win it will only take hard work for her to qualify for the Paralympics."

Montjane, who hails from Polokwane in Limpopo, said: "My performance bodes well for my plans to qualify."

In the men's category, the SA team made history by beating Chile and winning bronze.

Coach Gerald Stoffberg said: "Winning the semifinals was awesome, we couldn't have hoped for a more convincing win."

Men's team superstar Sydwell Mathonsi said: "My teammates Evans Maripa, Marshall Marsh and I played to the best of our ability."
