FORMER Kaizer Chiefs spokesperson Louis "Sprinter" Tshakoane was elected president of the South African Football Association's Gauteng East region at the weekend.

While the annual general meeting on Saturday was clouded by controversy, with three Local Football Associations (LFAs) boycotting it, Tshakoane was elected unanimously.

The region is made up of 13 LFAs and for the AGM nine were compliant with all Safa protocol while Boksburg and Central were late with their submissions but were allowed to submit theirs at a later stage.

The "rebel" group comprises Vosloorus, Tsakane, Nigel and Benoni South (Actonville and Wattville) and did not attend.

The region had been under administration as relations between members were strained after the Safa elections.
