Downs make flying start to Future Champs

MAMELODI Sundowns began their 2011 Gauteng Under-17 Future Champions campaign on a high note by hammering Chile's Universidad Catolica 4-1 in Soweto yesterday.

Guided by renowned development coach Floyd Mogale, Sundowns were all over the South Americans, who looked like people attending a free soccer lecture.

Sundowns scored through Thabo Zungu, Percy Tau, Khayelitsha Shezi and an own goal by Christiane Ross at the Nike Football Training Centre. Guillermo Soro netted for the visitors.

Mogale said: "It was a tight game but we acquitted ourselves very well. We appreciate the support from sports MEC Lebogang Maile and his department for organising this tournament. Competitions like this will benefit Bafana Bafana at a later stage."

Today's fixtures:

K Stars vs CF Pachuca (10am), Cosmos vs Kazan (11.15am), Zebras vs Apapa Golden Stars (12.30pm), Wits vs Clube Ahletico Mineiro ( 1.45pm) and

Pirates vs Catolica (5pm).
