TWO regional champions in the Football Stars Under-18 school competition were crowned at the weekend.

Grootville from KwaZulu-Natal booked a place in the national final after they beat Shayamoya of Kokstad 4-3 on penalties on Saturday. The result after regulation time was 1-1.

The game took place Veldenvlei Sports Ground in Richards Bay.

Then yesterday Ndamase from Eastern Cape walked away with the trophy after defeating neighbours Ncedo 5-4, also on penalties.

The two sides were deadlocked at 1-all after regulation time in a game that took place at Burgersdorp, outside Queenstown.

Both Grootville and Ndamase took home R4000, while the runners-up went home empty-handed.

The competition was played under the auspices of the South African Schools Football Association.

The two provincial winners will meet other provincial champions in the national event at Galeshewe Stadium in Kimberley from March 30 until April 2.
