Bullet reloads

REIGNING world 800m king Mbulaeni "Bullet" Mulaudzi is back in training after being sidelined for two weeks by injury.

Mulaudzi started training yesterday after a hamstring niggle prevented him from competing in the two opening legs of the Yellow Pages Series.

"The injury has healed and I'm back at training as I'm talking to you. I don't feel any pain but I was advised to take it easy for a few days," Mulaudzi said.

"I'm looking forward to the meet in Bellville (Cape Town) on March 10 where I will do the 800m.

"I will also do the inter-provincial championships."

On his preparations for the national track and field championships in Durban in April, Mulaudzi said: "I will compete in the 800m only and hope to use the inter-provincial competitions to prepare for the big event.

"Besides the hamstring injury, everything is going well in terms of my preparations and I'm looking forward to doing well this year.

"We have the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships in South Korea in August and this is one big competition I have set my sights on.

"My plan is to successfully defend the title I won in Germany two years ago and this will also form part of my preparation for the 2012 London Olympics," he said.

Also making his 2011 debut on March 10 is Beijing Olympics long jump silver medallist Khotso "Crocodile" Mokoena, a close friend of Mulaudzi.

"I'm ready to rock and roll in Bellville," Mokoena said.

"I have been following the series in Potchefstroom and Pretoria from the stands and I can tell you that I'm itching for action."

Meanwhile, Athletics South Africa is excited to host the African Cross-Country Championships in Cape Town on Saturday.
