Igesund gives Chabangu another shot

MOROKA Swallows coach Gordon Igesund has had a change of heart about troubled striker Lerato "Ace" Chabangu

Some time back Igesund said he had given up on the eccentric forward but yesterday he sang a different tune.

Igesund said Chabangu had been put in a special programme and was "looking good".

Chabangu has not signed with Swallows but Igesund said there was a strong possibility that the former Sundowns striker would turn out for the Dube Birds.

"I would say on a scale of one to 10 his chances of signing are about six or seven. But he is not working with me. He is currently with our physical trainer (Sarah Marcus)," said Igesund, who revealed that he was happy with the club's new signings.

"I am grateful for the support I've received from (club boss) Leon Prins. I told him which players I wanted and he got them, but I would still like to sign one more player, an attacking player."

Swallows welcome tail-enders Mpumalanga Black Aces at Dobsonville Stadium tonight at 8pm.

The match is the first of their two consecutive home games and Igesund is looking at getting maximum points from both.

"Aces are a closed book to me. They have bought a lot of players but I'll focus on my team and not our opponents. This is probably the toughest job of my career," he said after taking his charges through their paces yesterday.

Meanwhile, Vasco da Gama will try to bounce back from their defeat to SuperSport United on Friday when they play Santos in a Cape Town derby at the Athlone Stadium at 7.30pm.

At Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, Platinum Stars take on Bidvest Wits, also at 7.30pm while Maritzburg United are up against Ajax Cape Town at Harry Gwala Stadium at 8pm. At Lucas Moripe Stadium, SuperSport United host Free State Stars at 7.30pm.
