Musona warns: I'm not alone

RED-hot Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has warned Mamelodi Sundowns it will be suicidal to pay attention to him and ignore his teammates.

Speaking at a media briefing at the club's headquarters in Naturena yesterday, Musona said they wanted to win Saturday's Absa Premiership match at Soccer City.

"Sundowns will be making a big mistake if they pay special attention to me because my teammates will do the job for us," said the man who is known as "Smash and Grab".

"We always enjoy playing teams like Sundowns. It's a big game for both clubs. I don't want to make promises about scoring goals, the most important thing is to contribute to the success of the team."

At the same briefing Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic said they wanted to beat Sundowns to step up their challenge for the title. The Serbian added they won't read too much into Downs' 3-2 defeat by AmaZulu on December 22.

"That result is history. It will be a different team on Saturday but we are ready for them. Chiefs are the best team in the country."

From the Sundowns camp lanky defender Matthew Booth reckons matches involving both Chiefs and Sundowns have become bigger than the Soweto derby between Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

"I think this match has become the most sought-after fixture in the league and to a certain extent has become bigger than the Soweto derby," Booth said yesterday. the Bafana Bafana defender said Amakhosi are feeling the heat going into the match.

"They are playing catch-up. But on the other hand, they won their last match and we lost ours," he said, referring to Chiefs' victory against Mpumalanga Black Aces and Sundowns' loss to AmaZulu before the break.

Booth is likely to come up against in-form Musona, and if he was in any way nervous about facing the lethal Zimbabwean he did a good job of hiding it.
