Cameroon embarrass Banyana

CAMEROON thrashed Banyana Banyana 2-0 in an international friendly in front of enthusiastic supporters at Moruleng Stadium yesterday.

The Cameroonians started the match brightly and were more aggressive than the locals in all departments.

Banyana goalkeeper Thoko Mndaweni had to make a couple of decent saves from Cameroon's rampant attack, led by in-form Jacqueline Epee.

Banyana's attack of Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Leandra Smeda showed no urgency in front of goal and were easily dispossessed by Cameroon's rearguard.

It took the visitors 10 minutes to make their intentions clear when Aboudi Onguene capitalised on Banyana Mndaweni's blunder, to give her side a 1-0 lead.

The visitors kept on searching for goals with midfielder Epee penetrating easily through the hosts' defence with creative moves to the anger of local fans.

SA had a clear chance to even matters on the stroke of half but Nthabeleng Modiko squandered it with Cameroon 'keeper Toldo Jumbone at her mercy.

The score remained 1-0 at the break.

Banyana came back strongly in the second half as they ran riot over their counterparts with good ball distribution. But Lady Luck was not on their sides as they missed more than six clear attempts in front of goal.

In the 65th minute SA striker Smeda looked in disbelief as she cleverly lobbed her shot over on-rushing Cameroon goalie Jumbone but was denied by the woodwork.

Minutes later SA's Elson Matjila's powerful low strike was cleared on the line by Cameroon defender Christine Manie

Cameroon increased the tally in the 86th minute to 2-0 when midfielder Gabrielle Ngaska set up Kareen Yoh to put the result beyond doubt.
