DETERMINATION and focus on Germany 2011 were at the core of Banyana Banyana's 6-0 drubbing of Tanzania on Saturday.

The friendly international match took place at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa where two debutants were among the goalscorers.

Banyana's short-term goal is to do well in the seventh African Women's Championships while the big picture is qualifying for the World Cup in Germany next year.

Banyana will host the African Championships in October, and therefore stand a good chance of securing one of the two places allotted to Africa in Germany 2011.

"It was great to see how all the girls wanted to stay in the team and compete in the upcoming African Women's Championships. But the new ones are especially worthy of a mention, as they came in and took over," said coach Augustine Makalakalane.

Debutants Ethel Nkhumise and Nocawe Sikiti got their names on the scoresheet but Makalakalane also heaped praise on left-back Simphiwe Masina and goalkeeper Roxanne Barker, who kept a clean sheet on debut.

"They were hungry and very determined, despite the fact that the match was a friendly. They imposed themselves on the game and although Tanzania are a good team, they had no answers to us once we settled, really," he said.
