We name new PSL boss

SOCCER administrator Senzo Mazingiza is set to take over as Premier Soccer League general manager.

The position has been vacant since Ace Ncobo quit in a huff in November last year.

Sowetan has learnt that Mazingiza could be unveiled before the start of the new soccer season next month.

He is currently working for the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee. Mazingiza served as deputy tournament director during the World Cup.

The administrator from Boipatong rose to prominence in soccer circles after setting up the successful University of Pretoria soccer academy with Steve Haupt.

The institution produced household names like Lerato Chabangu, Bongani Khumalo, Andile Jali and Robyn Johannes.

Mazingiza also worked as chief executive of Bay United. Prior to that, he was employed by Volkswagen to set up a soccer academy in Port Elizabeth.

Mazingiza sounded shocked when approached for comment on the matter yesterday.

"This is news to me. I have not been approached by the PSL," he said. "I'm busy with the organising committee winding up the World Cup business. I will be without a job at the end of August, hopefully a Good Samaritan will come to my rescue so that I can put bread on the table for my family."

The PSL is also looking for a chief operations officer and a financial manager. PSL chief executive Kjetil Siem was in a management meeting at the time of going to press.
