Uniform style of play for SA teams

THE South African Football Association's top brass is considering the introduction of a uniform style of play for all men's national teams.

This is one of the recommendations put forward by the Safa technical committee. They want to see a progressive rotational system for coaches after Pitso Mosimane's appointment as national head coach.

The technical committee wants to respond to complaints that the country has lost its football identity and lacks a unique style.

"The lack of a unique South African style of play has been a cause for concern for many people. They have always wanted to see uniformity," said committee convenor Fanyana Sibanyoni.

"Following the appointment of Pitso, we have decided that all national coaches must work together. We need to have one programme that they will follow.

"That is why we are recommending that Majimbos (Under-17) coach Solly Luvhengo will be a technical staff member of Amajita's (Under-20) coach, Khabo Zondo. Zondo will in turn serve as a technical staff member of the Under-23 national side.

"We will also have the Under-23 coach, Bra Shakes (Mashaba), working with Pitso Mosimane at Bafana Bafana level as one of the assistant coaches.

"All our national teams will be doing things the same way. That will make progression very smooth. For example, it will help a player from Amajita when he is selected for Bafana Bafana.

"That Amajita player must be familiar with the set-up at Bafana Bafana. This will be the same for those at Majimbos, Amajita and the Under-23s.

"Right now when a player from Majimbos is selected by the Under-23s, he is exposed to a new environment. It's as if he is with another team in a foreign country," Sibanyoni said.

Sibanyoni said they wanted to see Bafana Bafana ranked high on the continent's chart before thinking about a top 20 world ranking.
