Race for Telkom Charity Cup hotting up

Mamelodi Sundowns were leading the votes for the Telkom Charity Cup yesterday after amassing 6544 votes.

Kaizer Chiefs and two-time champs Orlando Pirates were in pursuit in second and third place at 5672 and 3870 respectively.

Bloemfontein Celtic were fourth with 1527 votes. The trend has always been that teams who feature in the one-day tournament have a strong support base. This probably explains why three-time league champions SuperSport United are eighth on the standings. They had a paltry 84 votes.

The tournament takes place at Soccer City on August 7. PSL media manager Altaaf Kazi announced that if Pirates win the tournament this year, they will keep the floating trophy. The Cup's rules state that a club winning it three times keeps the floating trophy.
