SOCCER administrator Phil "Chippa" Mogodi reckons the idea of using young soccer players as Powerade Ball Crew members during the 2010 World Cup was good for development.

The global energy soft drink company recruited 448 boys and girls from various Safa-affiliated clubs in all the nine World Cup host cities.

The ball crew members were responsible for giving the ball back to the players during matches.

In the past they were known as ball boys but the title was changed this year after the inclusion of girls.

Mogodi, president of Soweto Football Association, said: "For that was one of the legacy projects of the World Cup for amateur soccer.

"It's a dream come true for these youngsters. I thank Powerade for affording them a rareopportunity to rub shoulders with soccer stars such as Didier Drogba, WayneRooney, Aaron Mokoena, Lionel Messi and Steven Pienaar."
