Arena Holdings is a news and entertainment content provider and one of Africa’s largest English-language news publishers. 

Sowetan is a national daily publication which features major current affairs, the development of marginalized communities, entertainment and lifestyle. 

Sowetan is looking for a talented and committed senior editorial leader to deputize the Editor to oversee the strategic operations and growth of all Sowetan platforms. 

Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years’ experience in a newsroom, including 7 years editorial management position 
• A relevant Journalism Degree is essential

• Ability to work irregular hours 
• Proven leadership record 
• Impeccable judgement and understanding of the SA Press Code and relevant regulation

Sowetan is looking for a talented and committed Politics Editor to drive Sowetan’s political coverage. 

Core functions

• To drive the political coverage strategy for all Sowetan platforms 
• To lead, guide and mentor a team of reporters to produce quality, insightful content in line with the Sowetan growth strategy
• To work closely with other section editors to enhance the quality of coverage on the political economy
• To produce engaging, relevant analysis and thought leadership content for all Sowetan platforms, including audio and video 
• To cultivate networks to produce exclusive content and raise the profile of Sowetan 

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a newsroom, including 5 years editorial management position 
• A proven track record of excellent political journalism 
• A relevant Journalism Degree is essential

• Strong insight into SA’s political landscape 
• Excellent organisational skills 
• Excellent research, communication, writing and editing skills 
• Unimpeachable integrity 
• Ability to work irregular hours
