Earth's warning signals during 2024. Earth, called the living planet, is not a living organism in the normal sense of the word, but it behaves like one in many ways.
Last year, it behaved like an organism that is unwell or sick. It developed feverish temperatures causing powerful and devastating storms, severe droughts, uncontrollable fires sweeping over huge areas, melting icebergs, rising sea levels and dying coral reefs.
This is largely caused by human action and inaction. Senseless wars involving weapons of mass destruction, ego trips into space releasing tonnes of damaging gases into our atmosphere, destruction of forests, the green lungs of our planet, and polluting the environment.
Climate is not something that can be contained within the borders of one country, it is a global phenomenon that must be addressed on a global level. We do not need narrow nationalist and isolationist leadership, we need globalists.
Another dimension of climate change that affluent countries and former colonial powers prefer to ignore is that climate change is one of the main drivers of migration to affluent countries.
If people are not helped where they are, they will put pressure on the borders of affluent countries, including those countries who colonised them, tapped their resources and imported slaves to build up their own countries.
If ever the world needed visionary leadership, it is now. Leaders with an inclusive worldview. We cannot afford world leaders who turn inward and who describe climate change as a hoax. Our generation is merely the gatekeepers of our planet that belongs to future generations.
