According to recent statistics, three women are killed by their jilted lovers daily. We are a country at war with ourselves, as DA leader Mmusi Maimane often says.

We are in a crisis of barbaric proportions. How long must our sisters, nieces and mothers have to endure this senseless abuse? Even our grandmothers are not spared the chauvinism of these morons.

The dust had hardly settled after Sandile Mantsoe's sentencing for killing his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena when more women were killed by men they used to love. Zolile Khumalo, Nhlazeko Mancane, Lindiwe Sibiya, Sheila Mosidi and Nomsa Mbuyisa are some of the cases reported in the media.

Men in SA appear to be weak.

Our courts must do their part and show the bravery of magistrate Daniel Mogotsi who gave former Tshwane ANC councillor Sipho Maselane a 58-year sentence - and life imprisonment - for rape and robbery.

As a man, I bow my head in shame.
