We need a new Safa executive

It's now history that Bafana Bafana have failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Just like before, Safa promises to implement radical initiatives to produce players who can compete with the best in the world.

I couldn't agree more with Mark Fish when he suggested some of the South African Football Association (Safa) members have overstayed their welcome

It is worth noting that Bafana last qualified for the 2002 Japan/South Korea World Cup. In 2010 we qualified automatically as host. Even then, we embarrassed ourselves by being the first host not to reach knockout stages.

Personally, I feel the Safa executive is part of the problem.

There are many burning issues in our football that need to be addressed. Players and club owners have complained about diabolical refereeing in the lower structures of our football.

Tim Sukazi - who owns a club in Mpumalanga and is also a football agent - once complained about refereeing but Safa chose to charge him instead.

Two Banyana Banyana players in Nothando Vilakazi and Noko Matlou recently complained about inappropriate behaviour involving referees and so far nothing has been done.

Another burning issue we need to deal with head-on is age cheating.

Age cheats have the ability to frustrate the plan to introduce young blood. Apart from that, we really need a new Safa executive with fresh ideas.
