With friends like these...

Remember that guy who was refusing to take his early retirement package because he believed he still had a patriotic duty to fly around the world to introduce uSilili to his supposed international friends?

What's his name again? Ahh, yes him.

Vera has it on good authority that the gentleman abandoned his beloved cattle at his Nkandla castle on Wednesday to rush to a Brics dinner in Gauteng where some of these "international friends" were supposed to be.

Problem, Vera hears, was that no one was expecting him to show up! So he ended up at a table far from Xi JinPing and other important guests.

To rub salt into the wound, the fellow who our man thougt need to be introduced to his pals seemed to be doing fine with these "friends" even without the Nkandla Crooner's introductions.

Nawe Mamncane?

But Silili isn't just stealing Baba kaDuduzane's alleged international friends, he is charming his way into the heart of Baba's local besties too.

As if it was not enough that ANC delegates at the KwaZuma-Natal conference at the weekend embraced Thuma Mina with open arms, Silili used a subsequent ANC Gauteng gathering to show off his blossoming friendship with one Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

Umbambel' eduze...

"Vandag re bra le suster," he bragged, "...in cabinet, comrade Nkosazana sits here next to me. We hold each other's hands, under the table".

Phansi kwani... Thixo wase...

As Vera watched Gauteng delegates celebrate the news that Dlamini-Zuma too has been swept off her feet by Ramaphoria, she could not help wondering what uBaba wethu oseNkandla was thinking to himself.

Xi's the man

At every party there is always that guy who behaves like he is Mr Party or, better still, the Blesser who is paying for all the drinks and food even when everyone knows he is as poor as a mouse.

This week's Brics Summit was no exception. Xi Jinping, president of the second-richest nation on earth arrived on time for the summit. So did Narendra Modi, prime minister to India - the world's sixth largest economy, and Brazil's Michel Temer. Brazil is the eighth largest in the world.

Putin an appearance, at last However they all had to wait for one Vladimir Putin whose economy lags behind - almost out of sight in 14th.

But then again, if your name is Putin and the whole world knows you call the shots in Washington DC after putting the Tramp in the White House on a short leash, you may be pardoned for thinking you have every right to act big.

A congregation of one

There's a new party in town and its founder insists that she has been Thuma(ed) by the heavens to create it. Thandi Mnyandu-Mudau needed no signal from Mama to start the Light of Christian Party, she says instructions came straight from The Beard. She is the only member so far, she confessed, but has faith...

Well if that is representative enough a sample for her to form a party, maybe the heavensfelt sorry for Mosiuoa Lekota. Phela he can't be the only one who is a party all by himself.

Beware the walk

The Red Berets turned five yesterday and the Commander-in-Chief prepared for the celebrations by having a walk with some of his lieutenants in East London.

Seeing images of the walkabout a friend of Vera's quipped: "Nayi le walk. It must mean Juju is about to raise the price of red overalls. Didn't Cyril start with the walks and before we knew it VAT; the petrol price and everything was up?"

Vera is not convinced, but does fear that the fighters would soon be calling each other walkers.
