Let's keep it up

WE cannot overstate the importance attached to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or hosting the four-yearly Olympics tournament.

In sports only the Fifa Soccer World Cup has more emotional impact and spectator value.

Such is the eminence of the IOC that South Korean President Lee Myung-bak arrived in the country yesterday to lobby for his country to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Three cities - Annecy in France, Germany's Munich and Pyeongchang in South Korea - are in contention.

The winner will be announced at the Durban ICC during the IOC's 123rd session - the first such gathering in Africa.

Proudly and dutifully, Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula welcomed IOC president Jacques Rogge, who heaped praise on our land.

It all suggests we can get better, despite our problems.

Keep it up, Msansi.
