Friend in need

LUPI Ngcayisa is our type of man: a manager for some high- profile entertainers who shows even more zeal when he tries to lift the lot of the less fortunate.

"All of us can do something, no matter how small," he says.

"We have people in this country who get big endorsements.

"Hundreds of thousands of rands ploughed into one individual. These people can also nominate a course of their choice to be sponsored with their endorsement."

That's more melodious than any song by his singers.

A social entrepreneur, as he calls himself, Lupi last year delivered 44000 pairs of shoes to poor schools around the country. Well above the 9000 target.

Now he aims to supply 90000 before the schools reopen in January. He will be slogging hard while most of us enjoying festive holidays.

Indeed, we would be better off with more of Lupi's kind.
