US man up for parole after killing 25 people

A California man convicted of hacking to death 25 farmworkers four decades ago is up for parole.

Juan Corona was the nation's worst known serial killer after his conviction for killing the farmworkers north of Sacramento.

The 77-year-old is up for parole Monday at Corcoran State Prison. He has been diagnosed with dementia and mental illness.

None of the victims' relatives are expected to attend.

Sutter County District Attorney Carl Adams says that is a sad testament to Corona's crimes. The victims were itinerant farmworkers with few known relatives.

Corona was a farm labor contractor.

It was the worst known serial killing spree in the United States until John Wayne Gacy Jr. was convicted in 1980 of murdering 33 young men and boys in his Chicago home.
