Australia flood costs soar

THE damage bill from massive floods that hit northeastern Australia this year will likely be $7,3billion (about R48billion) - $1 billion (about R6billion) more than previously thought - an official said yesterday.

Queensland treasurer Andrew Fraser revised the cost of the natural disaster and was followed within days by the destructive Cyclone Yasi after getting further estimates.
