There were celebrations and ululations as the community of Bokamoso in Rustenburg received 270 hectares of land valued at about R17m. The official handover took place at a packed Paarderkraal community hall on Friday.

Chris Griffith, the CEO of the mining company, said the company is deeply rooted in its mining communities.

"We are proud of the difference we bring to our communities. We have long been an active contributor to the country's development and we will continue to do [so] into the future" said Griffith.

He added that the company would continued to support the notion expressed by President Cyril Ramaphosa that land reform is no land grab nor an assault on the private ownership of property, and it should not undermine future investment.

Mineral resources minister Gwede Mantashe and human settlements minister Nomaindiya Mfeketho officiated the handover ceremony with North West premier Job Mokgoro.

Mfeketho said the handover of land that previously belonged to Anglo American Platinum (Angloplat) would speed up the process of delivery proper houses to the community.
