Limpopo police have arrested 11 suspects for public violence on the N11 road near Ivanplats Mine outside Mokopane.

Police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspects, who were nabbed on Wednesday morning, are made up of seven women and four men aged between 20 and 48.

"These arrests emanated from a violent protest which erupted in the area, where a Volkswagen Polo vehicle and a TLB were burned to ashes. One motor vehicle and a towing truck were also damaged with stones. The driver of the burnt [VW Polo] motor vehicle was admitted in hospital with burn wounds while the TLB driver escaped unhurt," Ngoepe said.

He warned members of the community to refrain from violent acts and to settle their differences in a peaceful manner.

"Those who are still participating in this irresponsible activity will be dealt with harshly and without compromise. The suspects will appear before the Mokerong magistrate's court soon," he said.
