Azinga "Golden Boy" Fuzile made a thrilling introduction in the junior lightweight division when he demolished Nigerian Waidi "Skoro" Usman in eight one-sided rounds to capture the IBF Africa title at the weekend.
The fight, which topped the seven-bout card of Rumble Africa Promotions, took place in front of a capacity crowd at East London's Orient Theatre. Staged by promoter Thembalethu Ntuthu, it attracted political heavyweights, including new MEC for sports Bulelwa Tunyiswa.
Usman, an African Boxing Union featherweight champion, had no business to get inside the ring with the sensational 22-year-old left-handed star from Duncan Village. Fuzile, the former SA, IBF Continental and WBC Youth featherweight champion, bettered his fight record to six knockouts in 11 wins.
For Usman, it was like going into a lion's cage covered in steak sauce and asking "how do you think I will taste?" His handful of wild blows were unable to even land on Fuzile. Referee Deon Dwarte finally stopped the brutality in the eighth round as it became clear that the Nigerian was heading for a complete demolition.
Before that bout, Gauteng-based Koos "The last Great Warrior" Sibiya from Mpumalanga did everything to dethrone Phila Mpontshana as SA junior lightweight champion. But Mpontshana, from Mdantsane, was presented with an undeserved gift - a unanimous points decision when he had spent quality time showing off his well-chiselled body in the ring.
In another closely contested 12-rounder, Khanyile Bulana won the vacant SA featherweight title - relinquished by Fuzile - against Tello Dithebe.
Ayanda Ndulani avenged his points loss to Xola Magusha, a third-round technical knockout in 2016, with an emphatic 12-round unanimous points decision to win the ABU mini flyweight title.
Siphosethu Mvula swept aside Dillon Yube over four rounds in a non-title lightweight bout.
Xolisile Voyi and Lebohang Pilane had the crowd on the edge of their seats but Voyi eventually dropped Pilane in the fourth round, while Asanda Gingqi stopped Anele Ntsanda in two rounds.
